Recent donations to the Museum
Wednesday 9 October to Saturday 5 April
Since 1999 we have been collecting objects for the social history collection to record the history of the people of Rugby and the surrounding area. Most of these have been donated by people who live or have lived in the borough.
This display in the Local History Gallery features new objects given to the museum over the past five years and displayed for the first time.
Highlights include:
Bellows from the forge at Willoughby
Women's Land Army uniform worn by Brenda Whittaker who worked at Normandy Farm near Rugby Radio Station during the Second World War
Roman worked stone from archaeological excavations carried out at Dollman Farm ahead of Houlton development
A letter of appointment for Nora Chapman to work for Sir Frank Whittle at Power Jets Ltd in 1940
Painting by Alan Sorrell of the English Electric turbines at Hinkley Point A Nuclear Power Station towards the end of their construction, 1962.
