The Journey

Gulce Gokkeoglu Murphy
4 October - 30 December 2024

he Journey is a sequence of children’s book illustrations from Gülce’s original story, which follows a young, lonely vampire boy who lives in an uninspiring and dark world, until one day he discovers a magical coffin which transports him to a place full of colour where he meets other vampires.
The dark scenes become brighter spread by spread, starting with hints of otherworldly bright colours, before exploding in a burst of a full rainbow by the end.
Inspired by fantastic stories, gothic aesthetic and atmospheric scenes, Gülce aims to create unconventional and unique fantasy worlds with endearing characters that bring joy.

Why 'The Moat?

Up until 1924 Regent Place was part of Moat Street, so named because a moated manor house was here in the late 1130s. In fact, above the Oxfam shop is a plaque for Moat House. From the middle-ages to modern day, we are reclaiming the name for our new gallery.
