Rugby Borough Council launched the competition in March to challenge pupils to colour in a picture of a recycling lorry and give it a name.
Competition packs were sent to every primary school in the borough, giving pupils an idea of what the lorries like to collect from Rugby's blue-lid recycling bins (e.g. plastic bottles, baked bean and soup tins, glass bottles, tin foil and paper) and the waste which contaminates the lorries' loads (e.g. nappies, batteries, food waste, gas canisters and polystyrene).
Hundreds of entries were whittled down by a panel of judges to eight lucky winners, who were invited to the Town Hall on Saturday to meet the Mayor of Rugby, Cllr Simon Ward, and inspect the six-strong fleet bearing the winning lorry names, the winners' designs and the winners' names:
The competition was organised as part of the council's ongoing work to promote recycling in the borough.
Cllr Ward said: "Young people have a real passion for the environment and recycling more of our waste has an important role to play in the borough's response to the climate emergency.
"We were so impressed by the number and quality of the entries to the colouring competition, and it was wonderful to meet the winners and their families on Saturday while we inspected the freshly decorated fleet of recycling lorries.
"It was lovely to see what it meant to the children to have been the winning entrants and the delight on their faces when seeing the lorries."
